  19. I am involved with embeded system development tools and there are
  20. several compilers for the 8-bit end of the market that offer char
  21. sized bitfields.

  25. Both of these vendors have 16 and 32 bit compilers and I guess they
  26. probably offer them there too.

  28. The main usage is to beable to declare structrues which represent
  29. hardware registers and I/O devices.
